El Palomar (@vuelanpalomas) is an artistic collective created in Barcelona in 2013. Formed in Fine Arts, they opened a space in a small attic in the Poble Sec neighborhood of Barcelona, motivated by the limited room certain aesthetics and concepts associated with queer practices had in artistic institutions. Their goal was to become a generative nucleus for projects, processes, references, and networks surrounding sexual dissidence and heterodox sexualities. The space was active for four years, and since then, they have continued as a collective promoting research and productions.
They embrace a variety of disciplines, including video, performance, music, publications, and curatorial projects, articulating critical discourses about the different ways of constructing identities through artistic practice.
They received the Miquel Casablancas Prize in 2017, the Ojo Crítico Prize in 2020, and were present at the 11th Berlin Biennale in 2020. They have also exhibited their work at various museums and cultural centers, including Espai 13 at the Fundació Joan Miró in Barcelona (2016), Centro Párraga in Murcia (2016), La Capella in Barcelona (2016), HKW in Berlin (2017), Casal Solleric in Palma de Mallorca (2018), MUSAC in Castilla y León (2020), MACBA (2021), and Leslie-Lohman Museum of Art in New York (2022), among others. Additionally, they have participated in numerous actions, talks, and conferences related to their practice.
