Sobre la pieza

This sound work emerges from the ritual that Alfredo Ledesma performed in Tierra Prometidaa settlement located at the edge of the Ica Desert, founded in 1998 to resettle victims of the El Niño phenomenon and the 2007 earthquake. The project questions concepts such as landscape and nature, seeking to raise awareness of the different forms of life that exist within a territory and the ways of relating to nature as a habitat. It critically examines the construction of the city from an unequal perspective and the poor distribution of resources. The desert becomes the stage that hosts various natural actors such as the wind, the sun, the moon, the dunes, and water as the absent presence. To this end, a ritual was carried out to invoke rain—a force that generates, transforms, and gives life. Through this ritual, Ledesma seeks to make visible the original culture of the area and its inhabitants as dwellers of the desert. The project aims to relearn and decolonize the notion of landscape through an aesthetic that subverts the Western predominance of the visual. It is a sound piece with a multisensory approach, intended to foster a broader understanding of nature as a being, as well as a generator and transmitter of knowledge.
