'There Must Be Justice' is an album by El Palomar, focusing on gender-dissident artists and produced by non-cis-gendered individuals.
About this playlist
El Palomar has curated this playlist around the research conducted for their recent musical release, There Must Be Justice (2022), an album featuring remixes from the soundtrack of their film Schreber is a Woman (2020). This soundtrack was also compiled into an album of the same name, published in 2021.
There Must Be Justice is an album focused on gender-dissident artists and produced by non-cis-gendered individuals.
El Palomar, founded by MarioKissMe and Rafa Marcos Mota in Barcelona in 2013, is an artistic duo born from the recognition of the limited representation that queer aesthetics and concepts had within art institutions. With the aim of establishing a hub for projects, processes, references, and networks centered on sexual dissent, El Palomar works to create visibility and foster dialogue around these themes in the art world.
As a collective, they continue to drive research and productions that, through artistic practice, shape critical discourse on the various ways of self-construction.
K-TIME at Hangar
On Sunday, February 12, we had the presentation of K-TIME at Hangar. In this gathering, the publishing house Caja Negra once again embraced a dual format of conversation and music session, staying true to the belief that writing and dancing are interconnected practices.
Taking advantage of McKenzie Wark's visit to Spain, we had the chance to hear her share some ideas that, while already present in her previous book Reverse Cowgirl become the heart of the narrative in her new book: Raving. There Wark writes: "K-time is that lateral time, that pocket in time where there is more time. This is a story about her need, her search. The ravers need to deliriously rave for all kinds of reasons. This transsexual body needs it to practice the arts of dissociation. This other time, the K-time, only occurs in the continuous rave. A dissociative time, a transsexual time, a ketamine time".
Beside Wark, El Palomar presented their research about their album There Must Be Justice, created entirely by trans and non-binary artists, including graphic design and mastering, which they themselves define as a safe sonic space that crosses textual and musical boundaries, capable of triggering other potential spaces. The album is a compilation of remixes of the original soundtrack of the project. Schreber Is a Woman, a film about memory and empowerment based on the Schreber case, upon which the pathologization of trans identities was established in the field of psychology.
